Treatment Program
Rena B (formerly a program of Mary Lind Recovery Centers, founded in 1949) in Los Angeles, CA provides a safe, structured, and supportive living environment for adults struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. The program is designed to educate and empower each resident to reach his or her full potential in a healthy lifestyle of recovery. When the wife (Rena) of Mary Lind Foundation founder Pat Wigger donated this property, she understood that everyone deserved a second chance. Based on a social model philosophy, we believe that abstinence from drugs and alcohol is but a beginning. Anger Management, Relapse Prevention, Family and Individual Counseling are also integral parts of the treatment process. By developing new attitudes that will increase responsible behavior, residents gain the freedom to make well-informed life choices. This environment supports an ongoing pursuit of the mental, physical, and spiritual wholeness inherent in each individual.
The program is a community-based program, operated and guided by social model treatment philosophy. Kitchen staff, with residents in the program help prepare all meals, clean and maintain the facility, and have decision-making responsibilities through the function of the Resident Council.
Rena B is located just east of Los Angeles City College. Within walking distance of Rena B are many shopping venues, restraints, bus routes, subway services and parks for social activities. The property offers a clean safe environment for resident to pursue a program of recovery. The program offers a full size kitchen with pantry and a dining area that can seat up to 50 residents at a time. There is a multi-use large group room which also serves as viewing area for television and Twelve Step meetings every night. There are three buildings on the grounds with a patio area that is ideal for interaction between the residents and visitors.
Rena B Services
Residents attend a minimum of five Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week at different locations in the community. Residents attend scheduled activities in the community which assist the resident in developing community resources in the areas of recreation and education. Residents are linked up with the Department of Motor Vehicles, vocational services, medical services and other community services which meet the resident’s needs.
Residents develop social skills and social support networks by modeling staff’s daily social interactions through education provided in groups and individual counseling and by attending community functions and Twelve Step meetings in the community
Counseling Services
Each resident is assigned a Counselor who serves as a case manager and advocates for the resident in terms of developing an appropriate, individualized treatment plan and ensures that the resident is taking advantage of needed resources. In addition, the Counselor advocates for the resident during discharge planning and provides appropriate resources and referrals upon completion of the program.
Develop Vocational Skills
Residents are encouraged to develop vocational skills. This is accomplished through skills developed by participating in facility chores. Residents are also encouraged to seek out vocational services in the community after the mandatory restriction period and only with the permission of the treatment team.
Rena B’s vocational activities and involvement include the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, Work Source, resume building, hygiene education, building interviewing skills, and employment search. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
Program Fees
The cost of most services are covered by many health insurance plans, private/cash payment, as well as funding from county, state, and federal assistance.
Rena B is partially funded by grants from the Department of Public Health, County of Los Angeles; and the California Department of Education. Rena B is CARF accredited and licensed and certified by the Department of Health Care Services, State of California.
