September is National Recovery Month, which raises awareness and promotes understanding of mental health and substance use disorder.

Recovery Month spreads a message of hope and that behavioral health is essential to overall health. Recovery Month celebrates people in recovery, applauds the contributions of treatment providers, and promotes the message that recovery, in all its forms, is very possible.

As part of the recovery month celebration, Social Model Recovery Systems staff, alumni, and residents gathered at Whittier Narrows Park on September 30, 2022, for Recovery Happens Annual event after a more than two-year hiatus. This event was an opportunity to connect to an array of community resources and prevention and treatment information.

It was a delightful, social, recreational activity for staff, alumni, and residents. This was an in-person event where they were able to have face-to-face conversations over barbeque and celebrate recovery.
